The second stage of the 2007 Dakar Rally brought about disappointment for Team Dakar USA. First the team was assessed a 13 minute penalty for speeding during the first stage and that was compounded by an off-course excursion during the second day of the 15 stage event.

"We had a hard day today," explained Team Dakar USA navigator Andy Grider. "We got sucked off into a little ditch and set it on its side and lost another five minutes."

The incident sent the team back to 46th in the day's classification and dropped the Monster Hummer to 18th in the overall standings.

The American team now finds themselves trailing the Volkswagen team of Carlos Sainz by 31:08.

The Rally leaves European soil and heads for the Moroccan city of Nador for the third stage in the Dakar.
