"I feel like someone whose just ridden a bike for nine hours and who found it really long. The 50 first kilometres were magnificent but then it's just very boring. We stayed together for the whole day, one behind the other, between 120 and 125km/h. Now I just have to sleep on my stomach because nine hours on a bike saddle is rough on the backside. At last the Dakar is starting!
Alfie Cox (AFS -- KTM) - 003
"During yesterday's special I fell after a really stupid mistake. And I'm paying for it. My shoulder hurts but luckily nothing is broken. I think that the ligaments between the shoulder and the muscle are torn but it's still early to say if it will trouble me. On a stage like today it's difficult to tell, on the other hand tomorrow I'll see how I feel after jumps. Anyhow, now I just want to take it stage by stage and try to do as much as I can for the team.
David Fretigne (FRA -- YAM) - 012
"It was really too long of a stage. Long and tiring for a biker. Added to that I was rather cold and it was demanding for the bike as well.
Jean-Louis Schlesser (FRA - SCH) - 300 #"We took it nice and easily but decided not to stop for lunch and that's why we've made it so early in Granada. However, it's difficult to cover such long specials with this kind of vehicle that really aren't made for constant speeds. The buggies are cars for attacking. I hope it didn't damage the mechanic too much.
Stephane Peterhansel (FRA -- MIT) - 306
"We drove at a good rhythm during the whole day without the slightest. The road was perfect with no traffic at all due to the fact that today is the 1st of January. On the other hand, it must have been a difficult day for the bikers who must have suffered from the length of the stage and the cold conditions. Anyhow, I fel ready and eager for tomorrow's special".
Luc Alphand (FRA -- MIT) - 312
"We spent 920 very pleasant kilometres. The weather was great and the road was nice. I was a long stroll for me. I listen to my MP3 music during the whole journey. Gilles (Picard) used the occasion to work on the upcoming navigation. I'm amazed at the number of fans here in Granada. What a welcome! It's impressive. They're going to go crazy for Nani Roma."
