Laszlo Palik and Gabor Darazsi finished 75th on opening stage of the Dakar. Sandor Kis and Peter Czegledi captured the 40th position. Truck trio Szaller -- Lakloth -- Csitari also finished the special.

Today the 28th Dakar had an unusual start: instead of a short prologue the competitors had a 83 km selective to complete between Lisbon and Portimao.

"Our goal now only to 'save' the car for Africa", stated Palik. "I think it was very good to start with such a real selective instead of a prologue. This special had a great feeling as so many people stood on the side of the track to cheer the competitors.

We drove very carefully, because the mud was sometimes really big. Some 30 kilometres from the finish driving through a great puddle water and mud poured into the cockpit. >From then I did not see too much."

Tomorrow there will be one more special on European soil, this time 115 km. And then, after some 400 km transfer section through Spain Africa awaits the caravan.
