An interview with Vojtech Moravek

Z.N.: Are you interested in the motor sports?

V.M.: Of course I am. The motor sport has been my hobby for many years. I've been involved in it as an active driver and as the organizer of many motor sports actions as well. And I'm quite fortunate that my hobby is so closely connected to my employment.

Z.N.: How long have you been cooperating - a sponsorship-wise - with Tomas Tomecek?

V.M.: It began somewhere around 1992 .. I think. But it was more of a technical-type cooperation. From choosing out the most suitable brake-shoe linings for his Tatra 805 and 815 through pick up of the right friction materials for the Dakar Tatra. Testing of the Ferodo friction materials in the competition's extreme conditions serves to verify materials quality and thus help in their new development.

Z.N.: How good is Tomas Tomecek as a driver?

V.M.: The fact that Tomas is a superb driver can clearly be seen from all the results he has achieved. From my own experience I can testify that above all he is a great person, an excellent mechanic and a good friend.

Z.N.: What it means for you to be taking part in Dakar?

V.M.: Dakar is a great challenge for each participant. For me personally ...it's also kind of a secret wish come truth.

Z.N.: And your own preparation to the African rallye - how is that going?

V.M.: I'm trying to improve my physical condition in addition to getting preventive shots.....those foreign diseases can be a real bitch - you know!

Z.N.: What foreign languages do you speak?

V.M.: English and little bit of Russian.

Z.N.: Do you spend lots of time in a car? Have you ever got into a serious accident?

V.M.: I get around forty thousands kilometers a year, no traffic accidents. And I believe it'll stay that way.

Z.N.: Would you dare to compete at the Dakar rallye on a motorcycle?

V.M.: Let me say for the start that I realy respect those taking on Dakar or for that matter on any other cross country rallye on the motorcycle because I used to ride one myself and still do now and then. But as to the Dakar - I would pass today. From what I've heard, it's big experience but even bigger backbreak.

Z.N.: What would you say to the Rally Dakar women participation?

V.M.: Somehow there is a sense of feminism in that qestion. It's like - what do I say to the number of female teachers in the grade schools? Well ... there is too many of them in the schools and too little of them at the Dakar. But seriously. We know plenty of good female drivers and navigators and it's good that the number of women in the starting feeld is growing. I'm the fan of them all and wish them all the best in the race. By the way, among the trucks there are two female crews, but I believe that we'll be faster.

Z.N.: You've already participated in the Rallye Berlin - Wroclaw and Baja Deutschland. Any unforgetable memories?

V.M.: There were plenty of those but it would be a long story. But what have really cought my attention at the both Berlin-Wroclaw rallies: the oposing teams helping each other when in trouble.
