In the bikes Cyril Despres (Gauloises KTM) won the special 1'23 ahead of Alfie Cox (Gauloises KTM) with Roma third (at 4'14) and Richard Sainct (Gauloises KTM) fourth (at 6'29). Overall Roma increases his overall lead slightly on Sainct to 9'40 while Despres (3rd at 41'25) increases his lead marginally over Cox (at 43'43).
Cyril Despres (Gauloises KTM France) 1st (in 6h55'10) 3rd overall (at 41'25)
"A good special -- I didn't make any mistakes and managed to increase my lead a little over Alfie. At about km 100 a doctor out on the course made a sign for us to go in a certain direction but it wasn't the right one and fortunately I trusted my instincts. Nani (Roma) however took the wrong direction and must have gone 30 km off piste. He was lucky it didn't turn out too badly for him - he must have ridden very hard to come back on us because I rode the last part with Richard (Sainct) and we were really pushing."
Alfie Cox (Gauloises KTM International) 2nd (at 1'23) 4th overall (at 43'43)
"A great day's riding. I caught Fretigne after about 140 kilometres and then rode with Fabrizio with Fretigne coming past us on the tight bits. Then I fell in the camel grass and got dusted in the chott following the others. Then from CP3 it was wide open over a real roller coaster of a track. Although I enjoyed myself I'm disappointed not to have pulled back on Cyril."
Richard Sainct (Gauloises KTM France) 4th (at 6'29) 2nd overall (at 9'40)
"Roma tried to mark me but went off in the wrong direction. Then after the dunes he came back on us where it was easy to follow our tracks. I went well but didn't manage to pull back any time, which is obviously frustrating. Now I am running out of opportunities to make the difference -- we really only have one day left of 'serious' riding."
Jean Louis Schlesser (Gauloises Schlesser Buggy) 4th (at 20'15) 3rd overall (at 2h31'44)
"It was not a special for us - too twisty -- so we just concentrated on limiting the damage and preserving the car -- it is a marathon stage with no assistance trucks this evening. As far as the overall result is concerned there's not much we can do. Mitsubishi have given their team orders and short of a miracle Peterhansel will win. It is not good for rallye-raid that they are so far ahead of everybody else -- I have the impression of leading another class!"
