Mario Barth and Oliver Pocher impressed with Race Touareg
Comedian Mario Barth and TV presenter Oliver Pocher were obviously thrilled with the Volkswagen Race Touareg, the 2009 Dakar Rally winning vehicle, after an opportunity to ride in the car. The winners of the cross-country rally, Giniel de Villiers (ZA) and Dirk von Zitzewitz (D), demonstrated the capabilities of the 280-hp "Dakar" prototype from Wolfsburg at the Off-road Park of the Nurburgring. Both Barth and Pocher rode in the Race Touareg for the first time. "Wow, that was a real humdinger," said Mario Barth. Oliver Pocher added, "That was definitely not my last time as a passenger in the Race Touareg." Prince Albert von Thurn und Taxis and former World Rally Champion Ari Vatanen were treated to a ride as well. As guests of the joint main sponsor Red Bull, Formula 1 stars Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber were on location as well.
Volkswagen Junior Rene Rast wins at Nurburgring
After celebrating his first victory of the season at Silverstone Volkswagen Junior Rene Rast repeated the exploit in his home race at the Nurburgring: The 22-year-old triumphed again in the Eifel, giving neither the runner-up Stefan Rosina nor the title defender and leader of the standings Jeroen Bleekemolen the slightest chance. In the standings former Polo Cup Champion Rast moved up to second place.

Swedish Junior Touring Car Championship
Olsson and Jansson clinch podium at Falkenberg
At the fifth race weekend of the Swedish Junior Touring Car Championship (JTCC) Niclas Olsson (S) and Marcus Jansson (S) achieved third places, respectively, at Falkenberg with the Volkswagen Golf. After Olsson merely finished the second race in eighth place he lost the lead of the standings he had captured the day before but, with just a three-point gap, remains within good striking distance of the leader Andreas Ahlberg (S). Christoffer Graff now ranks third overall. The Swedish Volkswagen driver came to Falkenberg as the leader of the standings but, with two race finishes out of the points, experienced a weekend to forget.
Swedish Touring Car Championship
Ekblom and Olsson barely miss scoring points at Falkenberg
At the ninth round of the Swedish Touring Car Championship season at Falkenberg Fredrik Ekblom (S) in the Volkswagen Scirocco powered by biogas took ninth place, thus barely missing points. His team-mate and compatriot Patrik Olsson, who had finished the first race in 13th place, missed a point-finish at the second race with an equally narrow margin. Almost up to seeing the chequered flag Ekblom had been fighting for points with good prospects as well but, after being hit by a rival, was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop and finished merely in 17th place.
