Stage 7 - Marathon 1 - Ouarzazate to Tan Tan

13:28 - No overall results
Bikes - Officially, there will be no overall results today. It is in effect the first half of a Marathon stage and the special stage will finish tomorrow.

13:32 - The threat of de Gavardo
Bikes - Carlo de Gavardo (no. 3) is currently enjoying a good stage. At this point his performance has lifted him into contention for the lead in the overall classification. At PC3, in effect, the Chilean rider was 3m 35s ahead of Joan Roma (No. 9), the overnight leader, and had reduced Roma's advantage from 4m 57s to 1m 22s.

Kari Tiainen (No. 8), on the other hand, has not had a good day. He has big problems with his wheels and has already lost a lot of time.

13:43 - De Gavardo closes in
Bikes - The first seven bikes have finished the stage. And the official checks appear to show that Carlo de Gavardo (No. 3) will be promoted to second place in the overall classification: 1. Roma; 2. de Gavardo (1m 16s behind); 3. Cox (2m 52s behind); 4. Meoni (4m 48s behind); 5. Esteve Pujol (9m 36s behind); 6. Arcarons (12m 10s behind); 7. Sainct (20m 10s behind). Note that Despres (No. 10), second overall through PC2, has not yet crossed the line.

14:07 - Accident for Despres
Bikes - Cyril Despres (KTM No.10) has released his distress beacon at the 262 kms point. It appears that the young French rider has damaged the ligaments in his hip area.
