CONCORD, N.C. - (April 6, 2004) - UAW-GM Motorsports will be honored during Speedway Children's Charities' 24th annual Charity Ball Friday, May 28, at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Charlotte. The event, the unofficial kick-off to the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at Lowe's Motor Speedway, will be a tribute to UAW-GM and its commitment to the community as well as its support of NASCAR racing.
The gala affair is annually Charlotte's largest black-tie benefit as well as one of the most successful fundraisers for the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. The evening will recognize UAW-GM for its continuous support and 10-year sponsorship of the Charity Ball.
"Through its longtime support of Speedway Children's Charities, UAW-GM Motorsports has improved the quality of life for thousands of children," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president of Lowe's Motor Speedway and a member of the Speedway Children's Charities board.
The evening will begin with a reception and silent auction that will include vacation packages, sports memorabilia, jewelry and numerous other items. Television personality Mike Joy will emcee the festivities. Several guests will participate in the evening's special production, including Henderson Slaughter and Larry Knox, co-directors of UAW-GM, and numerous drivers and team owners. Following a mini-live auction led by Larry Hedrick, guests will be entertained by Black and Blue, a local variety band.
Individual tickets are $250 or a table of 10 can be purchased starting at $2,500. Tickets and additional information can be obtained by calling (704) 455-4396.
