Gatorade All Pro Series, Nascar Touring And Greenville-Pickens Speedway Team Up To Benefit Shriners Children's Hospital
GREENVILLE, S. C. (August 17 2001) The first annual Gatorade All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring/Greenville-Pickens Speedway benefit golf tournament for the Greenville Shriners Children's Hospital was held at Bonnie Brae Golf Club in Maulden, S. C. Friday in conjunction with the Cintas 200 at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. Cintas was also a major contributor for the golf activities along with Budweiser of Greenville and Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet. $2,147 was donated to the hospital. Twenty-eight teams registered for the tournament with Bob's Inc. turning in the low score with a net 54. Participants on the winning team were Art Brooks, Curtis Welborn, Fred Keith and Chris Zorn of Easley, S. C. Keith also won honors with the longest drive on the par 4, 348 yard tenth hole and his ball won closest to the pin honors on the 155 yard par 3 seventh hole.
Second place with a net 55 went to the Palace Billards team of Dennis Kelly and Mike Sijon of Greenville teaming with Jeff Page and Mike Manley of Woodruff, S. C. The third place team with a net 56 was led by Blair Addis, Greenville-Pickens Speedway Late Model Stock driver, and Steve Sielinski and Mark Goad of Greenville. Other winners with closest to the pin awards were Ben Braga, Simpsonville, S. C. Gatorade All Pro driver Brian Smith, Mooresville, N. C. and Steve Cooper, Greenville, S. C. who came within two feet five inches of winning an S-10 pickup from Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet. Eddie Jones of Easley, S. C. had the longest drive on the par five eighth hole. Gatorade All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring drivers participating were Charlie Bradberry, Michael Britt, Randy Gentry, Benny Gordon, Steven Howard, Brian Smith, along with many crew members from various teams, car owners and Gatorade All Pro Series Officials.
Greenville-Pickens Speedway was represented by Craig Blackwell and other staff members of the speedway. Angie McAllister, Charleston, S. C. and Blackwell were instrumental in the planning and execution of the golf tournament with plans already underway for next year's tournament.
