Summit Point Library to benefit from Racing for Reading event

June 5, 2003: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America, Charles Town Races & Slots and Summit Point Motorsports Park announced today that the South Jefferson County Public Library would be the beneficiary of the Third Annual Charles Town Races & Slots Racing for Reading MARRS Race. The June 14-15, 2003 charity drive takes place at Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point, West Virginia and the public is encouraged to attend. During the past two years, the event has raised over $11,000 for the South Jefferson Library. As part of the charity drive, Summit Point Motorsports Park will not be charging Jefferson County residents admission on the second day of the event.

"Charles Town Races & Slots is very proud to partner with the DC Region and Summit Point Motorsports Park in this event," said Roger Ramey of Charles Town Races and Slots. Ramey added, "Charles Town Races and Slots has been a part of the Jefferson County community for many years and helping our neighbors is something that we really take pride in doing."

"Summit Point is our home ten weekends every year," said Chuck Allard of the Region. The Region hosts at least ten events at Summit Point Motorsports Park that bring an estimated 20,000 people to Jefferson County each year. "We want people to know that the Region does more than race here. We have members that live in Jefferson Country and we are a valuable part of the Jefferson County Community," added Allard.

Summit Point Motorsports Park has been in business since 1969 and employs over 100 people at the facility. Since its 1979 purchase by Bill Scott, the track has made a conscious effort to reach out to Summit Point and Jefferson County. "We have always stressed the need for community involvement in the areas we know best. That is why we donate so much track time to the Jefferson County public schools," added Mr. Scott. Summit Point Motorsports Park is home to a top-level drivers instruction program. Their clients include many government agencies.

The Region and the Motorsports Park are cooperating to donate a portion of the event's ticket proceeds to the library. In addition, there will be numerous fund raising activities taking place to benefit the South Jefferson County Public Library. The event is open to spectators and Sunday is free for Jefferson County residents. For more information, contact, Summit Point Motorsports Park (304) 725-8444
