Team Naykid Racing helps raise money for charity at The 43RD Annual Rose Cup Race weekend.
PORTLAND, Ore. -- June 11, 2003 -- Team NayKid Racing driver Cindi Lux of Portland will return to her home track at Portland International Raceway for this weekend's Rose Cup Races held on June 13 and 14. Lux and teammates Rick Gilhart and team owner Scotty B. White will not only take their No. 78, No. 54 and No. 3 Kumho Tire/Redline Oil/Kodiak Racing Wheel Z06 Corvettes sponsored by Suburban Chevrolet to the traditional Rose Cup Race, but will also be racing to help raise money for a local Portland school.
NayKid Racing donated a pit crew pass to the Lincoln High School charity auction that was held earlier this year. Proceeds from the charity benefit art and physical education programs in the high school. "NayKid Racing is always ready to help with local charities," said team owner/ lead driver White. "Giving back to the community, especially to kids and in the area of education is really top priority of mine."
Rayelle Gann of Portland is the lucky recipient of the NayKid Racing pit crew pass the team donated to the auction. Gann comes from a racing background beginning with her grandfather's involvement in building engines for Indy cars and has an uncle who is a professional driver. When Gann isn't following her favorite drivers; she works as an accounting manager for an auto collision repair shop. "I am so thrilled to be a part of a race team for one day. This is a dream of mine! My husband's boss purchased the ticket for me knowing that I would really enjoy it," Gann said.
During the team's testing last week in preparation for Rose Cup weekend, NayKid Racing drivers Lux and White set aside time to provide hot laps in their Z06 Corvettes. NayKid Racing donated the hot lap rides to the Lincoln High School auction as well. Alex Blank of Portland was the recipient of this unique charity gift. "It was the coolest thing, those cars are wicked fast and Scotty was the best! It was something I will never forget," said a grinning Blank.
"When we can take our love of motorsports and combine it with the opportunity to help raise money for education, it's a pretty special deal," said Lux. "Giving back to the Portland community is important and I hope this is only the beginning on how we can make a small impact."
Qualifying for the Rose Cup Race is Friday, June 13 at 3:30 p.m. and the race is on Saturday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at Portland International Raceway.
"I am always fired up about racing at the Rose Cup because of my dad's history in the early years of this race. It's just a very special event to my family and a lot of people in the Portland area. Plus, we will have our third teammate Rick Gilhart back with us," Lux said. Lux's father won the prestigious Rose Cup Race the first two years of its existence back in 1961 and 1962 driving a Ferrari Testarossa.
