JERRY DEPIZZO TO PERFORM NATIONAL ANTHEM AT FIFTH ANNUAL PRELUDE TO THE
O.A.R. Band Member, Ohio Native Will Make First Trip to Eldora Speedway
ROSSBURG, Ohio (June 1, 2009) -- Jerry DePizzo, a member of the Everfine/Atlantic recording group, O.A.R., will perform the national anthem at the fifth annual Prelude to the Dream on Wednesday, June 3 at Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
DePizzo, who hails from Youngstown, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University, will perform the Star Spangled Banner on the saxophone prior to the all-star race that features such racing icons as Stewart, Ryan Newman, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer and more piloting 2,300-pound dirt Late Model stock cars capable of putting out more than 800 horsepower.
The event begins at 7 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live to the entire nation on HBO Pay-Per-View®.
Money raised from the Prelude to the Dream will benefit four charities -- Wounded Warrior Project, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Operation Homefront and Fisher House. Each has a mission that outlines assistance to the courageous men and women who serve their country and need additional support both during and after their time of service.
"I'm honored to have been asked to perform the national anthem at the Prelude to the Dream," DePizzo said. "I'm thankful to Tony for asking me to do it, and obviously it's exciting for me to participate in anything that supports the troops and their families."
DePizzo, along with Marc Roberge (vocals, electric and acoustic guitar), Richard On (electric guitar and background vocals), Benj Gershman (bass), and Chris Culos (drums) make up O.A.R., which was formed in 1996.
O.A.R has celebrated several career milestones since releasing their sixth studio album, All Sides, last summer. All Sides garnered the band their highest debut to date when it landed at No. 13 on the Billboard 200. The album's first single, "Shattered," -- the band's first-ever single to be certified Platinum by the RIAA -- was the No. 6 Best Selling iTunes Rock Song of 2008, and spent fifteen weeks on VH1's Top 20 Countdown. O.A.R. recently released their second single from All Sides entitled "This Town" and it is already in the Top 20 at Hot AC radio.
"We're excited to have Jerry DePizzo perform at the Prelude to the Dream," said Stewart, a two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. "He and O.A.R. are a great band, and with Jerry being an Ohio guy, I think it's fitting that he's a part of a very special night in central Ohio."
