Petty Enterprises and General Mills Go 'Pink Together' for
Cheerios Dodge Will Sport Paint Scheme in Honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Mooresville, N.C. (October 9, 2008) -- In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Petty Enterprises has partnered with General Mills, primary sponsor of the No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge, to promote awareness of breast cancer during the week of the Bank of America 500 at Lowe's (N.C.) Motor Speedway. The efforts support Pink Together, a national campaign dedicated to inspiring hope among those touched by breast cancer.
The centerpiece of this week's partnership will be the No. 43 Cheerios Racing/Pink Together Dodge Charger that will be driven by 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Bobby Labonte during Saturday night's race. The pink Dodge will carry the names of hundreds of people who shared their stories about breast cancer at PinkTogether.com, an online community of hope for those impacted by this devastating disease.
"I'm proud to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by driving the pink No. 43 featuring Pink Together," said Labonte. "Breast cancer has touched so many lives across America. If you or someone you love is impacted by this disease, please visit PinkTogether.com to share your story, connect with others and find hope."
To raise money for breast cancer research, General Mills will donate $1 -- up to $25,000 -- for everyone who shares a story, posts a comment or leaves a virtual flower on PinkTogether.com during the month of October to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. This is in addition to a $2 million donation that General Mills has already made to support the cause.
"On PinkTogether.com, people who have been impacted by breast cancer are able to share stories of strength, support, and survival -- stories that really inspire," said Steve Greer, Pink Together campaign director. "One person's story truly is another person's hope when fighting a disease like breast cancer."
In addition to supporting Labonte and the Pink Together Dodge, General Mills has turned the packaging pink on a number of its fan-favorite products, including Cheerios® Cereal, Nature Valley® Granola Bars and Green Giant® Frozen Vegetables to help raise awareness of breast cancer and promote early detection.
Visit www.pinktogether.com for more information on how to share a personal story or to simply become a part of the fight to cure breast cancer.
