NASCAR Foundation Makes Pit Stop to Donate One Ton of Pencils to Classroom
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 18, 2006) -- The NASCAR Foundation made a pit stop today at Classroom Central to donate over one ton of school supplies to benefit the Charlotte Mecklenburg and surrounding school systems. The NASCAR Foundation caravan consisted of Foundation members, three Ford trucks donated by Young Ford and three NASCAR-themed trailers packed with the supplies.
The NASCAR Foundation was established in January 2006 and works with over 29 NASCAR industry, driver and track charities. By donating one ton of pencils to Classroom Central, the Foundation is able to give back to the community by helping school children obtain essential supplies that will aid them in the classroom throughout the coming school year.
Classroom Central strives to provide students and teachers in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System with the supplies they need to be successful in the classroom. Classroom Central relies on donations from community partners, local businesses and individuals to create and stock the "free store" for teachers.
"A good education is priceless, and we commend Classroom Central's work to provide our schools, teachers and students with the supplies they need," said Jennifer France Bates, vice chairman for The NASCAR Foundation. "Like Classroom Central, The NASCAR Foundation is committed to making our communities strong, and that's why we are delighted to provide school supplies to this worthy cause."
The NASCAR Foundation is proud to be a supporter of Classroom Central, equipping teachers with the tools to create a positive learning environment in their classrooms. In addition to the pencils, The NASCAR Foundation is also donating NASCAR magazines and other supplies for lesson plans, art projects and other creative activities.
