As if staging the largest-ever auction of modern Formula One cars and memorabilia wasn't enough, Minardi F1 Team Principal, Paul Stoddart, has decided some added excitement is in order at what is already shaping up to be a truly memorable four-day sale.
At 1400 GMT, immediately before bids open for each day's allocation of F1 cars, Bache Treharne's Chris Hall will hand over his gavel to Paul Stodddart, who will auction a passenger ride in one of Minardi's two-seater F1 cars. The highest bidder in each case will travel to Italy next week aboard a private European Aviation flight, and receive an adrenalin-pumping ride around the Autodromo Santamonica, at Misano, where the Minardi F1 Team is taking part in a scheduled test.
Proceeds from the sale of the F1x2 rides will be allocated to two extremely worthy causes -- the BBC Children in Need appeal and the Diana, Princess of Wales, National Air Ambulance, which provides emergency neo-natal and paediatric air transfers.
On the eve of the auction, Paul Stoddart commented: "In true Minardi tradition, in the course of the auction, we're offering participants the chance to bid each day for the ride of a lifetime in a Minardi F1x2 car, the proceeds from which will benefit two very worthwhile charities."
"The world record for one of these rides is $275,000, and although the rides being auctioned here at Ledbury are totally unreserved in terms of price, I'm sure the generosity of those attending will ensure excellent donations are made to both the Children in Need and the National Air Ambulance."
"On a personal note, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the staff of both Minardi and Bache Treharne, who have been working flat out to prepare and catalogue the massive number of items for this auction."
