Hunger Task Force Food Collection, Participation Surpasses Goal
MILWAUKEE (May 4, 2008) -- Race fans, classic car clubs, various race teams and area neighbors got their once-a-year chance to drive around The Milwaukee Mile on Sunday, in the historic speedway's 6th Annual Drive The Mile event.
Once again, The Mile made non-perishable food donations to the Hunger Task Force an admission component to drive three moderated laps around America's Legendary Oval.
To assist Milwaukee families in need, over 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food items were collected by the Hunger Task Force, which exceeded the expectation of speedway officials.
The turnout of an estimated 1,000 vehicles, from mini-vans to hot rods, to motorcycles and passenger cars, also surpassed the number of vehicles expected to take laps around the worlds oldest active motor speedway.
The growing and popular car show held in the NASCAR garage area boasted a large turnout classic cars, tuner cars, motorcycles and race cars.
The interactive Mobile Mile display offered fans a chance to change a tire or race a friend in the side-by-side racing simulator. Music and photos in victory lane were also part of the successful event's activities.
The Milwaukee Mile would like to acknowledge and thank all of the car show participants, event volunteers and would like to single out the efforts of the Loser's Car Club, Ed Kalashian, the Mid-American Stock Car Series, Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series, Vintage Modified Stock Car and Grand National Vintage Racing for their efforts in the success of the Drive The Mile event.
