GREAT TURNOUT AND SUPPORT AT STEP OUT WALK TO FIGHT DIABETES AT THE MILWAUKEE MILE

NEW EVENT RECORD AMOUNT RAISED, OVER 1,200 PARTICIPANTS

West Allis, Wis. -- Under sunny skies on a beautiful fall morning, The Milwaukee Mile hosted race fans and the local community in the annual Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes this past Saturday, October 18.

With a turnout of over 1,200 participants, representatives of the American Diabetes Association said the walk raised a record amount in excess of $100,000, making it the largest American Diabetes Association walk held in Milwaukee to date.

Building on a racing theme for the event, a NASCAR race car and the MilwaukeeMile.com-sponsored super late model race car were used to "start the walker's engines" when the green flag waved to begin the walk shortly after 10:00 a.m.

Also adding to the event were 45 classic cars and race cars on display in the paddock area, with live music by Close Enuf in A.J. Foyt Victory Lane.

Goodie bags, food and refreshments also awaited the participants after they crossed the finish line.

Prizes for pledge amounts raised ranged from flat screen TV's to autographed NASCAR items from Richard Childress Racing to T-shirts.

Special thanks go to the Milwaukee Chapter of the American Diabetes Association, the numerous event volunteers and car show participants that contributed to its success.

All proceeds go to support education programs in Wisconsin and diabetes research. Diabetes affects one-in-ten adults in Wisconsin. To learn more about the American Diabetes Association, visit www.diabetes.org or call the Milwaukee Area Chapter of ADA at (414) 778-5500.
