Mid-Ohio opens season with two "quiet" races

DUBLIN, Ohio (March 19, 2003) - Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course opens the 2003 season with two races in March, but fans won't hear the familiar rumble of racing engines. On Saturday, March 22, the Spring Thaw 5K will be held on the 2.4-mile racetrack.

DUBLIN, Ohio (March 19, 2003) - Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course opens the 2003 season with two races in March, but fans won't hear the familiar rumble of racing engines.

On Saturday, March 22, the Spring Thaw 5K will be held on the 2.4-mile racetrack. The Endoscopy Department of MedCentral Health System hosts the 5-kilometer run/walk for National Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

The first 100 registered participants will receive a free long sleeve t-shirt, with trophies provided to the top-3 male and female finishers in five age groups.

The Ohio Grand Prix Bicycle Series will make their first-ever stop at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday, March 29. The Mid-Ohio event is round 2 of 14 for the Ohio-based bicycle road racing series. Nine classes of two-wheeled racers will compete on-track for up to 40 miles per race, with points building toward a year-end series championship.

The 2003 Season for Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course officially gets underway with the Sprint Vintage Grand Prix, June 20-22, and the Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic, June 27-29, featuring Grand American Road Racing's Rolex Sports Car Series.

Motorcycles take to the track in July, with AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, July 18-20, and the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire, July 25-27. The perennial Champ Car Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio will be held August 7-10, with the SCCA National Championship Valvoline Runoffs® capping the season September 15-21.
