1st Annual Jim Watkins - CNS Charity Fund Raiser Golf Tournament to raise funds for ALS.

EL CAJON, CA -- The First Annual Jim Watkins - CNS (Center for Neurologic Study) Charity Fund Raiser Golf Tournament will be held Friday, December 6th at Singing Hills Country Club at Sycuan on Dehesa Road (El Cajon, CA). The tournament will include awards for Closest-to-the-Pin, Longest Drive, Winning Team, Putting Contest plus Silent Auction and several race cars on display.

Friends and family of Jim Watkins, who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), will gather to play 18 rounds of golf in a scramble format and celebrate Jim's 37th birthday.

As a Lakeside resident since 1975, Jim Watkins has been a crew member for a handful of Southern California NASCAR race teams and when not racing you could find Jim with a fishing pole in hand. Jim has been a tournament team member of San Diego BASSMASTERS, fishing in US BASS and WON BASS divisions for over five years.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that attacks the motor neurons. The illness slowly paralyzes the muscles while leaving the mind unaffected. Adult men and women from all ethic backgrounds, age groups and walks of life are vulnerable to ALS.

The Center for Neurologic Study (CNS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the research and treatment of neurological diseases. CNS was founded in 1979 with the intent of helping patients and families who have been affected by presently incurable neurologic diseases such as ALS and MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Jim Watkins is fortunate to be a patient of Dr. Richard Smith, Board of Director of CNS. For more information on the study, research and background of CNS and ALS - check out website www.cnsonline.org. The mission of CNS is to find a cure for, and improve the living with, ALS.

Jim's family and friends along with Jim recently participated in the first Greater San Diego Chapter of ALSA "Walk to D'Feet ALS" in October and raised over $5200 as "Team Jim's Jammers" for ALS. "Team Jim's Jammers" was awarded the use of the San Diego PADRES CEO Skybox for registering over 65 walkers for the 5K event presented by the San Diego ALS Chapter. The newly formed San Diego chapter is the 35th National Chapter in the United States.
