FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Sept. 8, 2004) -- Speedway Children's Charities shouts, "Cowboy Up" and offers an evening of food, dancing, and a dynamite auction all to raise much needed funds for the children of North Texas. The 2004 Speedway Children's Charities Cowboy Up Gala will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in The Speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway. The annual Gala drops the green flag on Chevy 500k race week activities.
"The Texas theme we've chosen for the Cowboy Up Gala is sure to provide a fun-filled environment for our guests," said Brittnee Henry, director of the SCC Texas Chapter. "The gala is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and we are excited to offer those who support our mission a chance to rub elbows with some of the racing world's most elite names. The Cowboy Up Gala is sure to be a great evening."
Scheduled to attend the Gala are Bobby Rahal, 1986 Indy 500 winner and co-owner of Team Rahal, 2004 Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice and 1999 Indy 500 winner and Cowboy Up Award recipient, Kenny Brack. Brack returns to Texas Motor Speedway after a serious accident in the 2003 Chevy 500k.
The ninth floor of The Speedway Club will resemble a 1980's honky-tonk complete with a mechanical bull. Bring your Texas-size appetite for dinner, and shine your boots to dance away the evening with singer/songwriter Blaine Gray. The evening will also include a live auction.
The highlight of the live auction will be a Texas duck hunt with three-time Indy 500 winner Johnny Rutherford, Indy Racing League IndyCar Series driver A.J. Foyt IV and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series veteran David Starr. The highest bidder and three guests will join the guys December 12-14 at East Bay Lodge near Houston. Other items will also be available including the chance to ride with an IRL driver during his introductory lap before the race. Chosen drivers are Alex Barron, Tomas Scheckter, Tony Kanaan, Buddy Rice, Helio Castroneves, Dan Wheldon, Dario Franchitti, and Sam Hornish Jr. The auction will also include a trip to Cancun, spa packages, autographed photos and racing memorabilia.
Speedway Children's Charities is a non-profit organization that distributes funds to local qualified charities benefiting children. All proceeds support children and their needs. Since 1997, the Texas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities has distributed over $2.3 million to local children's organizations in North Texas.
