Firestone Named Presenting Sponsor For Cara Charities' 'Beach Blanket Bash'
Beach Bash Charity Event At California Speedway Brings Sand, Surf With Racing
FONTANA, Calif., (Aug. 19, 2004) -- Dick Clark's California version of American Bandstand, "Where The Action Is," showed the United States how the 1960s beach scene had captured everyone's fancy.
Dancing, surfing, singing California songs on TV made the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and the Ventures household words. Those songs will be recreated on Oct. 1 at California Speedway in the second annual CARA Charities' Raceway Rendezvous spectacular known this year as the "Beach Blanket Bash."
CARA Charities announced today that Firestone has been named as the Presenting Sponsor for this year's "Beach Blanket Bash" which is part of the Toyota Indy 400 weekend.
"We believe in the outstanding contributions of CARA Charities and all of the great causes the organization has helped over the years," said Al Speyer, executive director of motorsports for Bridgestone/Firestone. "Each year CARA Charities puts on a fantastic party to raise funds for needy families and charities and we are pleased to be a part of this year's Beach Blanket Bash at California Speedway. Last year, we had a great time and we want to help make this year's bash even bigger and better."
A large hospitality tent, donated by Toyota Motor Sports, will be erected outside of the front straightaway at California Speedway and will be transformed into an old fashioned beach party complete with seashells, sand and surfboards as well as beach and surf music, a grand food spread, a silent motorsports auction and a variety of beach activities including contests and games
"We are very happy to have Firestone as our presenting sponsor for this year's Raceway Rendezvous event," said Mary Lou Bogner, executive director of CARA Charities.
"Al Speyer and his great staff have been tremendous supporters of CARA Charities for years and their efforts have given hundreds of thousands of dollars to very needed causes. We want to thank them again for their continued support of CARA and this popular California Speedway affair. We believe everyone will have a great time on October 1 beginning at 6 p.m."
The Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund has been the primary sponsor for CARA Charities "Buckle Up Baby" project. Established in 1993, "Buckle Up Baby" has donated over $565,000 to children's hospitals and clinics throughout North America to promote child safety.
Tickets for this year's Raceway Rendezvous -- "Beach Blanket Bash" -- can be purchased by calling the CARA Charities office at 317-299-2277 or on-line the CARA website at www.caracharities.org. Individual tickets are $100 and special sponsors and corporate tables are also available.
