August 28, 2001- Indianapolis, Indiana - A new event in the 20th anniversary celebration season of CARA Charities, the inaugural CARA Charities Indy Shop Tour, Thursday, Sept. 27, will showcase some of the top open-wheel auto racing facilities in the U.S. when the international motorsports community focuses on Indianapolis for the SAP Grand Prix of the United States at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The CARA Charities Indy Shop Tour will include guided tours of top CART and IRL team race shops, and a luncheon at the Columbia Club at historic Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. Joining the guests for luncheon will be former winning drivers and current Speedvision commentators Derek Daly and David Hobbs.
Race shops on the tour include CART FedEx Championship Series competitors Patrick Racing and Team Green and Indy Racing Northern Light Series championship leaders Panther Racing. Shop tour guests will be given a complete tour of each facility by personnel from each team, in addition to a full question-and-answer session at each location. Race fans and members of the media alike are welcome to participate in the CARA Charities Indy Shop Tour.

"This is a great opportunity to open up to the world our fine race shop facilities in Indianapolis while raising some funds for CARA Charities and the various organizations we support."
The day's activities will begin at the Columbia Club, 121 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, Ind., with continental breakfast at 8:15 a.m. Buses will then transport the guests to the race shops, with a return at noon to the Columbia Club for luncheon. Valet parking is available at the Columbia Club.
A limited number of CARA Charities Indy Shop Tour tickets are available for a donation of $150. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, CARA Charities was founded in 1981 to serve the community through charitable work and promote the friendship of all those involved in the motorsports family. Over $3.25 million has been distributed to numerous racing and community organizations, including the nationally recognized and award-winning "Buckle Up Baby" program that is a partnership between CARA Charities and the Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund. In addition to the CARA Shirley Bettenhausen Children's Fund, other recipient charities include CART Ministries, San Bernardino Children's Fund, CARA Benevolent Fund, Inc., Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, Foote Memorial Hospital, International Vehicular Injury Research Center, California Highway Patrol "Kids" Program, Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, Championship Drivers Association Benevolent Fund, Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer and Valley View Medical Center.
