SADLER TO AUCTION RACE HELMET FOR HERMIE AND ELLIOTT SADLER CHARITABLE FOUNDATION TO BENEFIT AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
STATESVILLE, N.C. (April 11, 2007) -- It's not everyday that NASCAR fans have the opportunity to purchase something that was worn by their favorite driver. But this April, fans will get that chance as Elliott Sadler auctions off his race-used helmet.
In an effort to promote Autism Awareness Month, Sadler will be wearing a special autism helmet at the remaining races throughout the month of April. It will then be auctioned online to benefit the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable Foundation.
The helmet, which was donated by Impact Racing, will sport the multi-colored puzzle piece logo of the Autism Society. The complex design was painted by Ryan Young of Indocil Art, who handles the majority of helmet paintings for Evernham Motorsports.
Sadler will be sporting the new helmet starting with the April 15 race at Texas Motor Speedway, then Phoenix Int'l Raceway and finally at Talladega Superspeedway. On April 30th, Sadler's 32nd birthday, the helmet will be put up for bid on an online auction site. Fans can look for Sadler on "Trackside" at Talladega on the SPEED Channel where he will announce which website will host the online helmet auction.
"Helping to create awareness for autism is an extremely important cause for me," Sadler said. "It hits really close to home because my niece Halie is autistic. The Autism Society of America offers many different programs and opportunities to help not only those suffering from this developmental disability but also their families. It is a cause that I'll do all I can to help out.
"We're not just trying to raise money for the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Charitable Foundation but we're looking to educate people and raise more awareness about autism."
