Indianapolis, Ind., July 24, 2007 - Office Depot (NYSE:ODP), a leading global provider of office products and services, and The Office Depot Foundation announced today that Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Nextel Cup race season and an Ambassador for Youth for National PTA, will join the Foundation on Thursday, July 26, to donate 2,250 backpacks to non-profit organizations and schools in the Indianapolis area.

The donations will be made during a special "Backpack Donation Day" event at 2:00 p.m. at the Office Depot store located at 4200 South East Street in Indianapolis. In addition to Edwards, special guests are scheduled to include Dr. David Klinkose, Ed.D, the After-School Programs Coordinator for Mayor Bart Peterson, City of Indianapolis Council Member Greg Bowes. Backpack recipients include:

* City of Indianapolis Afterschool Programs
* Educational CHOICE Charitable Trust
* Bridges to Success ? United Way
* Children's Bureau
* Covering Kids and Families
* Indianapolis PTA

"I am excited to be part of this very special event," Edwards said. "I understand how important it is to have the right tools for success - whether your goal is winning a NASCAR race or doing well in the classroom. These backpacks and supplies from the Office Depot Foundation will clearly help kids who need an extra boost to succeed in school."

The Indianapolis donations are part of the Office Depot Foundation's 2007 National Backpack Program, through which 300,000 backpacks are being donated to non-profit organizations and schools throughout the United States and Canada. The recipients, in turn, will provide the backpacks to deserving children whom they reach through their programs or in their classrooms.

This is the third consecutive year in which 300,000 backpacks are being donated. By the end of this year, Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation will have given away nearly 1.5 million backpacks since the program began in 2001.

For the first time, the 2007 backpacks will come in five different color schemes in shades of blue, red, purple, green, gold, aqua and brown. Designed specifically to meet the needs of students in grades K-5, backpacks feature two front pockets, a net pocket on the side and wide, padded straps for comfort and support. Each backpack holds a pencil pouch containing a ruler, four crayons, a glue stick, a pen, a pencil, a pencil sharpener and an eraser.

In addition to "Backpack Donation Day" events in Indianapolis and more than two dozen other cities, every Office Depot store in the United States and Canada will receive an allocation of 25 backpacks to distribute in its community. In many cases, these stores will join with other Office Depot locations in their area to make the donations.

The Office Depot Foundation also is partnering with five national non-profit organizations that are distributing backpacks through their own networks:

* National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association
* Communities in Schools (CIS)
* Feed The Children
* Kids in Need Foundation
* National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL)
