Protecting Our Most Precious Resource
INDIANAPOLIS, IN April 4, 2007 In many ways, charity to children is giving in its most wholesome form. Since 1993, CARA Charities has given over $600,000 to families needing infant car seats. Supported by the Bridgestone/Firestone Trust, the program has directly impacted the safety of thousands of children. As part of the pre-race ceremonies before the Vegas Grand Prix, a $2,500 check will be given to the University Medical Center Family Resource Center on Sunday, April 8 to provide car seats to needy families.
"The Buckle Up Baby program is dear to the heart of us at CARA Charities," said Vicki Faivre, president of CARA. "With the assistance of Bridgestone/Firestone, we are able to present a check to a local hospital at every open wheel race event in America. Last year we gave $70,000 at 28 races. It is very gratifying to know that this program is helping to ensure the safety of our children. The positive feedback we receive from the mothers and the hospitals makes the check giving ceremony one of the highlights of our weekend and reinforces how directly beneficial the program is to the communities we race in."
In 2000, CARA Charities was awarded the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations Buckle Up America Award and in 2004, they received the Benefactors Award from the Baptist Health South Florida Foundation in recognition of their dedication to children's safety. "Our Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund is a proud supporter of CARA Charities and the Buckle Up Baby program," said Al Speyer, executive director of Bridgestone/Firestone Motorsports. "In addition to providing financial support, we have been working with CARA charities to educate and increase the awareness of the need for and proper use of child safety seats. These seats reduce injury by 71% for infants less than one year old and have saved the lives of over 5,000 children."
Entering their second quarter century of giving, CARA Charities is a leading motorsports charity that has donated more than $4 million dollars to dozens of philanthropic causes helping children, hospitals, scholarships funds, ministries and numerous charity foundations.
