August 11, 2001- Lexington, Ohio - A sell-out crowd of more than 400 members of the CART community dined in fine style Friday night at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course while raising more that $28,000 for charity during the sixth annual Tones Spices CARA Charities Taste of CART. The total money raised included a $10,000 donation from Tones Spices which has sponsored Taste of CART for the last two years.
A favorite event each year on the CART racing tour and one of the highlights of CARA Charities' 20th Anniversary season celebration, Taste of CART gives participants a rare opportunity to experience the fine cuisine and delicacies prepared by the chefs and hospitality professionals on the CART circuit. Held in the paddock area at Mid-Ohio, the progressive dinner allowed guests to visit several of the unique motorcoaches in the paddock area, many decorated in a theme fitting with the offered cuisine that features a variety of international and American specialties.
This year's participating hospitality teams included Patrick Racing, Penske Racing, Team Rahal, Honda Racing, Fernandez Racing, Arciero/Blair Racing while Newman-Haas Racing, Target/Chip Ganassi Racing, Team KOOL Green and Team Motorola collaborated with FedEx for dessert that was served in the FedEx Championship Series hospitality unit. The participating hospitality groups will also select a charity to receive 25% of the proceeds raised from the event. This presentation will be made on the grid prior to Sunday's Miller Lite 200 FedEx Championship Series race at Mid-Ohio. A complete list of chefs and hospitality professionals participating in Sunday's charity check presentation follows.
In addition to the desserts at FedEx Hospitality, Honda, Penske Racing, CARA Charities and Fernandez Racing offered guests appetizers.
