Longtime Motor Sports Charity Celebrates 25th Year With Generous Contributions
SPEEDWAY, IND. (OCT. 19, 2006) -- CARA CHARITIES, ONE OF RACING'S LEADING CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS, CELEBRATED ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY IN SENSATIONAL STYLE THIS YEAR BY DONATING OVER $150,000 TO NEEDY CAUSES WITHIN THE MOTOR SPORTS COMMUNITY.
CARA Charities, started by a group of racing drivers' wives in 1981, has developed into a driving force in open-wheel racing industry with more than 500 members and over $4 million donated in its 25-year history.
Children's health and safety issues have been a primary focus for CARA Charities throughout the quarter century of work.
This year's many activities by CARA produced donations to more than a dozen causes have already totaled $156,307 and more are expected before the conclusion of 2006.
Among the organizations that received assistance from CARA Charities this year included Bridgestone/Firestone "Buckle Up Baby" program to local hospitals throughout open-wheel racing, IRL and Champ Car Ministries, Shirley Bettenhausen Indianapolis Methodist Hospital Children's Fund, IRL Kids, Cristiano Da Matta Recovery Fund, Paul Dana Memorial Fund, Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, Hole In The Wall Gang Foundation, Rich Vogler High School Scholarship Fund, Phil Casey Charity Golf Tournament, SAE International, George Werden Buck Boys & Girls Club, Lamb's Fold Women's center of Joliet and the Long Beach Grand Prix Association Fund.
"We are delighted with the contributions that CARA Charities has donated this year," said Vicki Faivre, CARA president. "Celebrating CARA's 25th anniversary in 2006 has produced some exciting events for a variety of charitable causes. CARA has been able to donate more than $150,000 already this year and we are not done yet. We look forward to assisting more groups in the future."
In 2006, CARA coordinated special projects and fundraising activities throughout the 2006 racing season that included the 25th annual Indy Fashion Show, Christmas Ornament with Danica Patrick in 2006 and the "Soap Is Hope" program as well as new events such as "Pirates of the Adrenalin" Cruise and Casino Night at Long Beach, "Cars and Stars At High Speed" at Joliet's Autobahn Country Club, Tailgate Party and Cruise for Cristiano at Road America and "Talk Walk with the Drivers" at the Cleveland Grand Prix.
CARA Charities is currently in the planning stages for its 2007 fundraisers and will announce its charity programs in the near future.
