TODD KLUEVER CHARITY RIDE TO RAISE MONEY FOR DIABETES
CONCORD, N.C. - Todd Kluever began his racing career riding motorcycles on dirt-oval tracks in and around Wisconsin. Now he is using his love for motorcycles to raise money to fight diabetes.
Kluever, driver of the No. 16 3M Roush Fenway Racing Ford in the NASCAR Busch Series, is hosting the first annual "Todd Kluever Ride To Cure Diabetes" on Sunday, June 24, 2007. The event will be a day-long motorcycle ride which will begin at Capital City Harley-Davidson in Madison, Wisc., and end at Nora's Tavern in nearby Deerfield, Wisc. All proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
With this event Kluever is able to combine his passion for motorcycles with his aspiration to raise money for diabetes research, a cause that hits close to home. Todd's older brother, Tim, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of nine, and ever since then Kluever has wanted to do something to support the cause.
"I've wanted to do something like this for a long time," Kluever said. "It wasn't until I bought a Harley recently that I decided to put together a motorcycle ride to raise money for diabetes. The guys at Capital City Harley-Davidson and the local Hogg chapter in Madison have been a huge help putting this together in a short amount of time, but I'm hoping we can get at least 100 riders for the first year and grow from there.
"My brother had done so much to help me with my racing career that I thought this would be a good way to give back to him and everyone living with diabetes."
The ride will begin at Capital City Harley-Davidson in Madison, Wisc., on Sunday morning. It will cover roughly 100 miles with a stop for lunch, and end at Nora's Tavern which Kluever and his brother bought in 2001 to help fund his racing career. There will be an auction after the ride with many racing items, including a signed Matt Kenseth firesuit.
For information on participating in the ride, please contact Marcia at Capital City Harley-Davidson at (608) 221-2761.
