Allmendinger Ready for Thursday's "Minnesota Motorsports Gives Back" Race at Elko Speedway; Best Buy racer hits the dirt for charity once again
Richfield, MN (7 July, 2010)-AJ Allmendinger has shown this summer that he can jump into a new car, compete on a new track, and still come out looking like he's raced there all his life.
He's got the chance to do that once again this Thursday night as he's pledged his time and his heavy right foot to support Best Buy Racing as he joins the "Minnesota Motorsports Gives Back" Race at Elko Speedway. Best Buy Racing and several Minnesota-based corporations that boast NASCAR involvement are staging a race that will give back to the fans while also raising money and awareness for several significant causes.
The event marks the first-ever "Minnesota Motorsports Gives Back" day at the races. Elko Speedway, the premier NASCAR facility in Minnesota, is located a half-hour south of downtown Minneapolis.
AJ Allmendinger, who besides driving the No. 43 Insignia/Best Buy Ford Fusion for Richard Petty Motorsports, has been getting a lot of extra racing in this season on everything from dirt ovals to short-track bullrings. Thursday will see the Californian racing some familiar faces from his day job as the 20-lap feature race will also include Greg Biffle (3M), Clint Bowyer (General Mills), and Jason Leffler (Great Clips).
That NASCAR Sprint Cup experience will be solidified by the presence of one prominent factor for every race weekend as Ms. Sprint Cup will also be on hand as part of the event. THe NASCAR drivers' day will kick off with a visit to the Mall of America for an autograph session starting at 11:00 AM at the Best Buy Rotunda.
All revenue from this event benefits a group of charities: Minnesota Returning Veterans Fund, Victory Junction Gang for Terminally Ill Children, Greg Biffle Foundation for Animals, and the Clint Bowyer Foundation.
"Best Buy does a lot of very cool things, and this race at Elko is a great example of that--combining a cool fan event with charity, and some dirt track racing thrown in there...it's going to be a blast," said AJ. "I wish I had a little more track time to prepare! But it will be the same for everyone. I like getting the chance to drive something new and different. The more I get to drive and race, the better so I can't wait for this to get going."
