Burrows Completes NYC-DC Brita Climate Ride
Leading fundraiser to travel to Copenhagen for COP15
Danville, VA (3 October 2009)--Adam Burrows completed the 300-mile trek from New York City's Central Park to the United States Capitol on Wednesday as he made his debut appearance in the Brita Climate Ride.
The bicycle ride focused on raising money and awareness for meaningful climate change and renewable energy legislation, as well as to support essential climate and bicycling advocacy projects at three beneficiary organizations: Focus the Nation, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, and Clean Air -- Cool Plane.
The five-day event culminated in a rally on the steps of the Capitol building, with several members of the Senate and House of Representatives taking part in the festivities and celebrating the accomplishment of the riders while also committing to bring their message to their colleagues in Congress.
Burrows' adventure is not yet over, though, as his impressive efforts on the fundraising side of the program saw him move to the head of the pack as the lead fund raiser among the hundreds of riders, earning him a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark, for the COP15 Summit in December.
"This was an experience that I'll never forget," said Burrows as friends and family greeted him at the culmination of the ride "I met some really amazing people who were a part of this and even though it was a lot of hard work riding through some pretty tough circumstances, it feels great to finish today. I was also really excited to spend some time riding along with Friis Anderson (Danish Ambassador to the US) on the last two days and am looking forward to visiting Copenhagen again to represent the Brita Climate Ride."
