Transsyberia Rally, Leg 7: Good Position before starting the Stages in Mongolia

On the seventh leg of the Transsyberia Rally we just rolled 890 kilometres from Novosibirsk to Kosh Agash. The special stage was cancelled, because we had only one ambulance left for all competitors after Antonio Tognana's accident.

Looking forward to the real tough stuff in Mongolia!

So now we arrived at the western border of Mongolia. We will cross the border tomorrow on another transport leg. From then on the driving will get tougher. Special stages will be longer and more difficult, especially the navigation will be tricky. Moreover I remember deep, deep mud from last year and many very difficult river crossings. Well, that's alright for Andi and me. After having lost a lot of time on the opening special stage, Andi had calculated that in the best case we would arrive at the Mongolian border half an hour behind the leader. Actually, the gap is 26:35 minutes, so we are running nicely within our own schedule.

Like last year I am very, very impressed by the sheer vastness of the country with its giant distances and its beautiful countryside. The people here welcome us very, very friendly, and we are impressed with their pride and generosity. All in all it's a great experience.

I hope I'll have more good news tomorrow,

Best wishes, Armin
