SARDINIA RALLY RACE IS ON ITS SECOND STAGE AND ALEX ZANOTTI IS 10TH OF THE STAGE. HE ARRIVED TO THE BIVOUAC IN THE "POLIGONO MILITARE DI CAPO TEULADA", WHERE NO RIDER CAN RECEIVE ASSISTANCE FROM THEIR TEAM. TOMORROW, THE RACE WILL HEAD MURAVERA FOR THE THIRD STAGE.
TEULADA (CA) -- Today was the second stage of the Sardinia Rally Race, from Arborea to Teulada: it was the marathon stage, with no service at the end of the day, and all riders will sleep in their tents at the bivouac in the "Poligono Militare di Capo Teulada," a military area. The stage was composed of 332 km total, with two timed sections, of 109 and 50 km respectively, very slippery due to the rain that fall during the day.
Alex Zanotti started in the 11th position after going through the slippery ground, and decided not to take risks or force the pace in order to finish without any problems. Zanotti completed the timed section in 9th position.
During the assistance, he mounted a Michelin Desert tire, normally used in African races, knowing he could not count in grip because it is made for the sand of the desert, but it guarantees durability for the marathon stage. Then, in the second part of the special he didn0x00b4t force the pace, hoping to find better conditions to run tomorrow.
Zanotti completed the stage in 3h16'02'', which places in the 10th position in the overall ranking, eigth minutes far from the leader of the race, Andrea Mancini.
Alex Zanotti: "Today, I did not like the track, there were plenty of slippery stones and it was too risky to try to go faster. So, I preferred to ride calm, because it was the marathon stage and there is no possibility to work on the bike or change a tire. Tomorrow, I really hope it will be a beautiful day and that the tracks will be dry."
