MIXED START FOR MCNALLY IN QLD

Mark McNally had a mixed start to the opening day of Round 4 of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Queensland Raceway today where he suffered a mechanical problem that forced him off the track before a solid second session.

A leaking diff seal spilt oil onto Mark's rear tyres early in the first session sending him off the track and into a sand trap early in the first session, bringing the session to a temporary halt.

"When I went out I thought the rear brakes were locking up a little," Mark said.

"I then adjusted the brake bias to compensate but knew that it was a bigger problem when the rear just slid away from me sending me into the sand."

The West Coast Racing mechanics did a great job to get the car back on the track and allow Mark to complete another eight laps putting him 20th fastest.

"It was very important to get the car back on the track in the first session.

"We found a number of handling issues which we made changes for before the second session."

The second session was somewhat better for Mark, although 14th fastest means that more set-up changes will be made overnight.

"The improvements were good but I know there is a lot more to get out of the car.

"We will take a more aggressive approach to the set-up for qualifying tomorrow.

"I want to chase the set-up rather than wait and see if the track comes to it; we will know tomorrow if it works or not," he said.

Mark has qualifying tomorrow at 10 am followed by race 1 at 2.10pm.
