Top Ten Race Result for Drew Russell in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series
Drew Russell has put in another outstanding drive in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series round at Winton Raceway in Victoria today. Drew has scored a top ten result that was well above what his qualifying pace suggested.
In race 2, run this morning, Drew made an excellent start from his 17th position on the grid, jumping up into 14th position by the end of the first lap. He was able to make steady progress during the race, picking drivers off one by one before taking 10th place on the final lap.
This charge backed up his impressive performance in race one held yesterday afternoon that saw him charge through from 21st position to 17th.
Race three was always going to be difficult given the power differential between Drew's car and the newer cars around him, but Drew fought hard to bring the car home in 15th place.
Drew once again made an excellent start in the third race held this afternoon, slotting into 8th place on the first lap. As the race progressed Drew dropped back a couple of places to be running in 13th place on the final lap. Unfortunately with just a few corners remaining, Drew was hit by a fellow competitor, pushing him wide and dropping him back two places, seeing him come home in 15th position. This not only cost him 13th place in the race, but dropped him from 12th over all for the weekend back to 14th.
The Novocastrain Motorsport Team were still incredibly happy with the weekend's results.
"Drew has driven perfectly all weekend, we could not have asked for more. He has been punching well above his weight yet again," said Novocastrian Motorsport Team Manager Wayne Russell.
"We expected results around 15th -20th position given the car we are running so we were extremely happy with 10th place in this morning's race. Drew fought hard in race 3, driving a faultless race."
The Russell family also tasted success at this weekend's ARDC meeting at Eastern Creek. Drew's younger brother Aaren won his first Formula Vee race in race one of the weekend before winning race 2, finishing in 3rd in the final race to take out the overall round win.
Drew and the Team now have a long gap before the next and penultimate round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series round which will held as a part of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama on October 9-12.
Between now and then the team will continue to support Aaren in his Formula Vee campaign, whilst continuing the hunt for sponsorship to continue Drew's Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.
