The Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Challenge produced perhaps some of the best racing throughout the weekend with their ever popular style of door to door handle style of Touring Car racing.

Qualifying saw Garry Willmington scorched around the 2.2 km circuit with a best lap of 1:01. 7658 in his # 25 ex Tony Longhurst EL Falcon V8 Supercar, following behind Willmington were Luke Searle (Super Tourer), Matthew Hunt (V8 Supercar), Adam Proctor (Super Tourer), Terry Wyhoon (V8 Supercar) and Peter Kelly (Super Tourer) in sixth.

For the opening race, 5 laps, Willmington continued his fine qualifying form to take victory, with Wyhoon charging home in second, with Hunt third, then came Sam Dale (Super Tourer), Kelly and Mark Telfer (Future Tourer) rounding out the top six finishers. Defending series champion, Luke Searle was pinned by race officials for allegedly jumping the start and after his stop go finished well down the order in 16th.

In the two handicap races, 10 and 12 lap races respectively, wins were shared between Adam Proctor and Garry Willmington, with the race three, won by Willmington, not counted as a points event due to a safety car period mid-race, which subsequently ruined Wilmington's hopes of snaring the round win. At the completion of the day Wyhoon was awarded the round win after placing second and third in race one and two, with second going to Willmington (First & Fifth) with youngster Adam Proctor third (Ninth & First). Class winners for the opening round were Wyhoon (V8 Supercars), Proctor (Super Tourers), Telfer (Future Tourers) and Rod Markland (Group A).
