CHAMPIONS AND COUNCILLOR COMMEND WPS BATHURST 12 HOUR

Back to back Champions Rod Salmon and Damien White and Councillor Bobby Bourke of Bathurst Regional Council have commended the weekend's WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro at Mount Panorama.

For Salmon and White, yesterday's win in the once around the clock encounter was the icing on the cake for six months of hard work by the Team Mitsubishi Ralliart Australia team.

"We really started this up six months ago when we ordered the Evo X and started working with Team Mitsubishi Ralliart Australia. This year the depth in the field was a lot stronger, so I'm delighted to have won the race for the second year in a row," said Salmon.

"Everyone seems to really enjoy coming to this Event. Bathurst is a great place to come, we brought 35 people here this year as a part of our outfit."

White, who is a two time V8 Ute Series Champion, indicated that while the Event is a different atmosphere to the 1000km race held in October it is rapidly developing into a major mark on the Australian motorsport calendar.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet that I've won at Bathurst two years in a row. From the seven times that there has been a 12 Hour race at Bathurst I believe this is the first time that the same two drivers have stood on top of the podium two years in a row," said White.

"It would be silly to expect this Event to have the same atmosphere as October but it is a great circuit and it is very pleasing to see the Bathurst Regional Council getting behind it to ensure it continues to build over the coming years."

Councillor Bourke was pleased with the running of this year's WPS Bathurst 12 Hour.

"This is the fourth year we have run an Event of this nature and there is no doubt that it was the best yet," said Bourke.

"The Bathurst Regional Council will continue to support the Event in the best way they can and the Event Management team have our full support. The town is happy, the businesses are happy and we look forward to having everyone back next year."

Event Director James O'Brien was pleased with the running of the third WPS Bathurst 12 Hour.

"We have experienced a record attendance and a record entry list both for the 12 Hour Race and Support Category Races," O'Brien.

"The Bathurst Region has experienced an economic boost with the town booked out for the first time during the Event. We particularly want to thank Bathurst Regional Council for their ongoing support and look forward to returning again next year."

Events New South Wales Chief Executive Officer Geoff Parmenter believes the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour plays an important role in regional economies.

"Events New South Wales support for the 2009 WPS Bathurst 12 Hour leveraged the NSW Government's $10 million contribution to the pit and paddock redevelopment at Mount Panorama, one of the world's iconic motor racing circuits," said Parmenter.

"Events such as the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour play an important role in regional economies by boosting local retailers, accommodation providers, tourism operators and other businesses."

The 2009 WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro was attended by 29,117 people across the three days.
