David Wall returns to the Mountain

David Wall is set to return to the Mountain later this month to fight for victory in the 2009 WPS Bathurst Showroom Enduro.

The 12 hour race will be run at Mount Panorama on February 20-22 and David, who claimed pole position in last year's race, will be returning with an identical package.

David will again team up with his father, Des Wall, and Trevor Symonds, and will again race in the yellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. All three drivers have Bathurst experience and David also ran there in the Carrera Cup round held in October last year.

This year the race pole winner will receive the ARMOR ALL(R) Pole Position Award after the qualifying session that will be held on Saturday February 21. The winning team will also receive a cheque for $2,500.

David is keen to get back out on the Mountain and is hoping that the success he tasted at the race last year and in the final round of the Carrera Cup will continue.

"I finished my Carrera Cup season by scoring equal points with the round winner, just missing out on the round win through a points count back. I am hoping to continue that run of success at Bathurst later this month," said David as he prepared for the 12 hour.

"Last year we had a great car and a great team that had the speed to challenge for the win, but we were let down by mechanical issues. We have made a few changes to the car, including working on the brakes which caused us problems last year, improving the reliability of the car.

"We may not have the newest car out there, but in a 12 hour race reliability is vital, as they say to finish first, first you must finish!"

David is no stranger to endurance races having competed in a number of races both in Australia and overseas.

His most recent endurance race was the 12 hour, 2008 Petronas Primax 3 Merdeka Millennium Endurance, (MME) in Malaysia held in August last year. David and his team were competing against some of Asia's top drivers running in newer 08 spec Porsche RSR's, but drove brilliantly to come home in a very impressive 3rd place.

"Endurance racing requires a very different approach to the short sprint races I normally compete in. They require a much more steady and consistent approach, looking after the car," said David.

"I am looking forward to the race -- I have been out of the car for too long and am itching to get back out there and racing!"

The WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro will be held on February 20-22 at Mount Panorama, NSW.
