CHALLENGING SCOTTISH QUALIFYING FOR TEAM AON

Team Aon experienced a tough qualifying session at Knockhill in Scotland today, with Tom Chilton and Tom Onslow-Cole set to line up in seventh and eighth places respectively for the first of tomorrow's three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) races.

The day had started promisingly for the Littlehampton based squad when Tom Chilton set the second fastest time during the morning's first practice session, his team mate Onslow-Cole endured a more difficult session, after the initial set-up he elected to run on his Ford Focus didn't yield the lap-time hoped for.

The morning's second forty minute session, was once again held in glorious Scottish sunshine and gave the first indications that TOCA's latest regulation tweak, imposed on the team's two Ford Focuses two weeks ago at Silverstone were taking their toll on the teams performance around the twisty and undulating Scottish track, as both drivers struggled to match their championship rivals pace. Despite carrying less success ballast than some of their rivals, the pair could only finish the session in the lower half of the top ten.

By the time the afternoon's qualifying session started the mornings sunshine had been replaced with cloud and therefore a slightly cooler track temperature. Despite the change in weather the all important qualifying session followed a similar pattern with the works cars from Chevrolet and Honda filled the top four places. Team Aon's two Tom's showed they had both got the maximum out of the cars restricted performance by securing the fourth row of the grid.

Both drivers had hoped to be challenging for pole position once again, but reflected that with three races around the tight and twisty, 1.27 mile track, it was all still to play for tomorrow:

Tom Onslow-Cole (#21), BTCC Standings: 2nd -- 157 points.

"That's all we had today, there are no excuses, that is as fast as we could go. I didn't do as many laps as I would have liked in practice this morning and I just feel that we aren't quite there with the set-up, perhaps we need to try something more radical for tomorrow to enable us to get up there with the front runners, it is going to be a long night with the engineers!"

Tom Chilton (#23), BTCC Standings: 5th -- 127 points.

"Qualifying really hasn't gone as well as planned, but that is partly because everyone is so close, I'm seventh but under two-tenths of a second from pole! Everyone else has done a really good job and that's why we are all so close, although I'm a little surprised to see Jason (Plato) so fast seeing as he has maximum success ballast on the car and he's done that sort of time, imagine if he had no weight in!"

Mike Earle, Team Principal: 2nd -- 265 points (Team) & 1st -- 390 points (Constructor).

"We are slightly disappointed with seventh and eighth in qualifying, but tomorrow is another day. Sunday's three races are going to be a very important for the championship and I remain confident that we will be able to score some strong finishes. It is vital that both of our drivers stay focused, keep out of trouble and bring home as many points as possible."
