Goff hails MG's Snetterton pace after breakthrough win

Both Goff and 2013 champion teammate Andrew Jordan spoke of issues with the car earlier in season as MG appeared to struggle for pace.

But Goff, having converted a reverse-grid pole into the the marque's first win of the season, is confident that significant progress has been made.

“The pace in the car was brilliant,” he said. “Even if we had started third or fourth, we would've still come through, probably would've still fought for the win.

“I didn't do the tyre test [at Snetterton in July], so we probably started the weekend down by about 130 laps. We were on the back foot coming into qualifying, but we made the best of a bad situation.

“We unlocked a bit of performance out of the car, it was really, really strong in the final race. Massive thanks to MG.”

Both Goff and Jordan finished all three Snetterton races well within the top 10, allowing the duo to move up in the standings.

Jordan now sits fifth, 41 points behind leader Jason Plato, while Goff has taken eighth.

Milestone victory

The final Snetterton race marked Goff's first BTCC win, his previous best result having been a pair of second-place finishes at Brands.

“I can't really put it into words,” he said right after the triumph. “It'll probably sink in a little bit later on, but it's great to get this off my back.”

Goff led from start to finish on Sunday, although did come under unexpected late pressure from Plato, who ended up just three tenths behind at the chequered flag.

“I knew we had a gap so most of the lap I just backed off slightly – and then I made a little mistake at the last corner,” Goff said.

“But I knew that 'JP' wasn't really close enough to make an advantage of anything that happened in the last few corners. It's not really an overtaking place.”
