TEAM AON AIMING TO CONTINUE CHAMPIONSHIP CHALLENGE
Team Aon head into this weekends penultimate round of the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Donington Park in Leicestershire, hoping to continue their impressive run of form that has seen a Team Aon driver on the podium at each and every race weekend since Rockingham back in April.
The consistent form of both Team Aon drivers, Tom Chilton and Tom Onslow-Cole means that the team continue to challenge for all five championship titles up for grabs during the 2010 season, most notably the Team and Constructors titles, where the Arena Motorsport run Ford squad sit second in the standings and the drivers championship where Tom Onslow-Cole sits third, within striking distance of series leader Jason Plato, with team-mate Chilton just behind in fifth.
Team Aon experienced a tough weekend's racing two weeks ago during the series annual visit to Scotland. The latest restrictions placed on the Team Aon squads two Calor Gas powered cars by the series organisers, TOCA, meant that the Littlehampton based team struggled with the tight and twisty nature of the Knockhill track, although Tom Onslow-Cole did manage a podium finish, with a second place finish in race three of the day.
The fast and flowing nature of this weekend's Donington Park circuit should play to the strengths of the Team Aon cars and both drivers are looking forward to the weekend and continuing the challenge for championship honours.
Tom Onslow-Cole (#21), BTCC Standings: 3rd -- 178 points.
"Donington Park is one of my favourite circuits in the country, it is right up there with Thruxton for me. I love the flowing nature of the layout, which should also really suit my Ford Focus. Looking at the championship standings this is really a make or break weekend! I will need another points haul similar to Silverstone's if I am going to remain in contention and push Jason (Plato) and Matt (Neal) for the title."
Tom Chilton (#23), BTCC Standings: 5th -- 143 points.
"Realistically I think my chances of winning the driver's title are now remote, I really need the leaders to have bad races, but anything is possible with the BTCC! I think our car will be good around Donington and so I really hope we can challenge for podiums in each race. That will help in the battle for the other championships up for grabs, like the Constructors and the Independents titles. I've always enjoyed racing at Donington, so I'm looking forward to the weekend."
Mike Earle, Team Principal: 2nd -- 300 points (Team) & 2nd -- 434 points (Constructor).
"As we move towards the conclusion of this year's championship the pressure ramps up on everyone, but we really have nothing to lose at this stage. We are attempting to hunt down our rivals in front of us and the championship is really theirs to lose. Our Ford Focus should be strong around Donington and so hopefully we can score some consistent results to ramp up the pressure on Jason and on Honda"
