LLOYD TO MAKE BTCC TEST DEBUT WITH TRIPLE EIGHT
Daniel Lloyd is delighted to confirm he will make his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship test debut with Triple Eight Engineering at Rockingham next week at the wheel of one of the multi-title winning squad's Vauxhall Vectras.
The Huddersfield-based 18-year-old, who won last year's ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup, met this morning with Triple Eight principal Ian Harrison at the team's Banbury premises to agree the deal and will therefore run alongside the 2010 BTCC regulars during official testing on Tuesday, 25th May.
"This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity for me, I want to thank Ian Harrison and also my manager Tim Sugden for his help in securing this test deal", said Daniel, "Driving a touring car has been my goal since I started racing karts in 2003, so to have the chance to drive a car as competitive as the ex-works Vectra -- and with a team as successful as Triple Eight -- is incredible."
Since securing his first car racing title with Renault Clio Winter Cup success last November, Daniel has been competing in America as part of the BF Goodrich/Skip Barber National Championship presented by Mazda. Next Tuesday's BTCC test will therefore mark a welcome return to 'tin-top' action in the UK for the TNT Post backed driver.
He added: "I'm looking forward to being back in a saloon car, I've thoroughly enjoyed racing the Skip Barber single-seater over the last couple of months but to get behind the wheel of a touring car is a bit of a dream come true.
"I know it's going to be a big learning curve, and there will be plenty to learn and get to grips with, but my main aim is to enjoy the experience and do as good a job as possible for Ian (Harrison) and the rest of the guys at Triple Eight."
Tim Sugden said: "Professional motorsport is where we want Daniel to be and we acknowledge a test with a vastly experienced team like Triple Eight is an important step. We're very much aiming at a future in touring cars and GT racing so this test is a great opportunity for Daniel to gain valuable experience and to have the chance to show what he can do in a top-line car."
Daniel's BTCC debut will take place on Rockingham's 1.94-mile International Super Sports Car Circuit configuration. Live timing from the test day will be available at www.tsl-timing.com
