Cameraman unhurt after car hits gantry in Snetterton crash

Nobody was hurt in the huge startline crash that marred the beginning of race three of the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton.

Just seconds after the start, Alex Martin’s Ford crashed into the pitwall, while moments later Hunter Abbott’s Chevrolet struck Mark Howard’s VW and rolled into the barriers.

Hunter was struck again by another car, which launched his Chevrolet into the camera gantry.

The impact caused the gantry to topple over, sending the cameraman, Phil White, crashing to the ground.

“Drivers are all fine and we sent the cameraman to the medical centre,” said a member of the medical team.

Broadcaster ITV reported that the cameraman was "shocked but OK."

Abbott said: “I’m fine. I’m not exactly sure what happened. Alex Martin and Howard came together, I went to the left to avoid it and ran out of track. I hit a car and that’s what started the rolls off.

“I didn’t know I clipped a camera post, so I was quite worried, but I’m told he’s OK.”
