Tom Onslow-Cole celebrates his first victory for VX Racing

Tom Onslow-Cole turned his fantastic pole position into his first victory for VX Racing in today's round ten of the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Thruxton.

The 21-year-old had a great fight with Gordon Shedden (Honda Civic) in the early part of the race until Shedden was forced to pit with a puncture. Onslow-Cole proved the Vectra VXR's speed by pulling away from the rest of the field and also recording the fastest lap of the race on lap two, setting a time of 1:18.883.

The reigning BTCC Champion Fabrizio Giovanardi and team-mate Matt Neal rounded up the good result for VX Racing, coming home in fourth and fifth place for the Luton-based manufacturer.

Today's second race will go ahead at 14:10 at the Hampshire circuit.

Tom Onslow-Cole #10

"I am really happy. It was a shame I couldn't fight more with Gordon [Shedden] but I'm confident I would have been able to overtake him because the car just felt so good.

"I was able to push even harder towards the end of the race and it's just a brilliant result for everyone in the team."

Fabrizio Giovanardi #1

"The success ballast was holding me back and I was not really in a position to attack any further.

"Great result for Tom and I'm really pleased for him"
