Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship 2000
Rounds 21/22 - Oulton Park, September 9/10
Qualifying - Saturday, September 9
Weather: Feature - overcast/dry, One-Shot - overcast/light rain at times.
Jason Plato carrying 20kg success ballast after 3rd place at Brands Hatch.
Feature Race qualifying session interrupted by red flag after Kristensen (Honda) goes off at Knickerbrook.
Yvan Muller, Car 6, Vauxhall Vectra
Sprint (one-shot) - 6th, 1m23.971, Feature (30 minute session) - 7th, 1m23.270
"I think we were on the pace in the Feature qualifying session but I just couldn't set a time. Twice I went out for a flying lap - the first time the red flag came out and the second time I got caught up in traffic. We were unlucky in the One-Shot session this afternoon. It started to rain just as Jason (Plato) went out and stopped at the end of my lap! It meant that I had to be more cautious than the other drivers and break earlier. But, the race is always another matter, anything can happen and I intend to race hard."
Jason Plato, Car 5, Vauxhall Vectra
Sprint (one-shot) - 9th, 1m24.583, Feature (30 minute session) - 8th, 1m23.275
"I lost my best lap to the red flag in the Feature qualifying session which is annoying as I was well up on the split time. But, that's the way it goes. After that I had a bit of traffic and couldn't get another flying lap in. It was very difficult to really attack in the One-Shot session. It started to rain just as I went out and struggled with grip. It just means I will have to work hard to overtake tomorrow."
Vincent Radermecker, Car 8, Vauxhall Vectra
Sprint (one-shot) - 7th, 1m24.042, Feature (30 minute session) - 3rd, 1m23.017
"I am very pleased with this morning's Feature Race qualifying session. We made a few changes to the set up after yesterday's testing and as a result am feeling very confident with the Vectra at the moment. The car is very consistent in race trim so I'll be pushing hard - I think I have a real chance. I haven't had a win yet this season so I'll be going for it! The One-Shot session was not as good though, I was perhaps a little too cautious but on the whole, I think we'll be competitive tomorrow."
