It was good news, bad news for Team PETRONAS Syntium Proton at the first TOCA test at Silverstone on Thursday 14 March. David Leslie recorded a respectable best lap time within 1.7 seconds of pace-setter Matt Neal but niggling gearbox problems curtailed the amount of running both cars achieved.

David Leslie, Team PSP's lead driver said: "This is reality time -- a new team facing up to new challenges with a new car. We had such a good start with our testing in France and Spain and now we've come down to earth with a bump -- and no bad thing. We need to find the problems fast and fix them before the season starts and I'm confident that's what we'll do.

He continued: "Despite the lack of laps, I was quite pleased to get within sight of the pace-setters, even with the old-spec engine we were running. It shows the chassis is in with a shout --once we have the race engines and get more laps under our belts I reckon we'll be pretty competitive. After all, that's what we're here for!"
