Team PSP fights to season end at Donington
With the BTCC championship title fight going right down to the wire, Donington was always going to be a battleground for all the racers. So it proved for Team PSP, with Watson Smith having to open the race weekend from the back of the grid after overheating problems in qualifying. Hairuman also suffered, afflicted in all three races by an intermittent electrical gremlin which prevented him getting a full race. Despite that, both drivers put up a spirited fight to bring Team PSP's 2004 BTCC campaign to a close with honour.
Fariqe Hairuman: "It's been a frustrating weekend -- I was having a good race in round 28 until I was forced to pit with electrical problems, probably due to electrical problems. We thought we'd fixed the problem for the next round but it came back again. The same thing happened for the final race. Despite that, I feel I've had a good first season in BTCC -- I've learned a lot and kept out of trouble. I'm very grateful for the opportunity I've been given."
Shaun Watson Smith: "On the whole it was another one of those weekends that promised so much, but delivered very little. It killed me to get taken out of the first race on the last lap as I had driven so hard to get into ninth, which would have put us in such a good position for the second race. It was terribly frustrating as the car handled so well. It is just so disappointing to come away without a top-six result once again, especially as this was the last race of the season."
Mike Carroll (Chief Engineer): "This was a tough race weekend to finish our season. Despite the damp conditions we found good setups but were unable to make full use of them due to problems on both cars during the races. We gave it our all but it just wasn't our weekend."
David Wong, (Team Principal): "The team put on a solid performance today. It was frustrating for Fariqe despite the best efforts of everyone to sort the intermittent problem -- he wasn't able to show what he can do today. Shaun fought hard and earned some solid results to round off our 2004 season in BTCC."
