Airwaves Racing head to Donington Park looking to fuel Championship position.
Airwaves Racing head North to Donington Park as the second round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship gets underway this coming weekend 16th and 17th April.
With the Motorbase Performance run team heading up the Independent Team Championship, and lead driver Mat Jackson sitting only eight points behind title leader Jason Plato, the team are focused on securing another triumphant visit to the podium and an all important points haul.
On paper, the fast paced Leicestershire circuit suits the team’s Ford Focus ST ‘little red devils’ well and the team clearly demonstrated that they have succeeded in putting a very competitive car out on the track with a near perfect race weekend at Brands Hatch earlier this month.
The Airwaves Racing team are resolute that consistency will be the key to their success this season and that regular podium visits for Jackson, matched with top ten points finishes for team-mate Liam Griffin, are a must for them to retain their current Championship position. After such an encouraging start to this season’s campaign, they go into this weekend with their heads held high and confident of a successful result.
Airwaves Racing Team driver Mat Jackson said:
“I’m looking forward to Donington this weekend as I think it will suit our car well, and with the progress that we made at Brands Hatch, it looks likely that Donington could produce some great results for us. We will however be carrying 36KG of success ballast into qualifying and in race 1. This could take the edge off our performance, as Donington is renowned for being the hardest circuit on brakes on the Championship calendar, but, I guess that's the price of success!”
Airwaves Racing Team driver Liam Griffin said:
“Brands Hatch was certainly not the start I was looking for but never the less it was a great experience. Mat showed that we have a competitive car in the right hands; unfortunately those aren't mine at the moment! The team have been fantastic and very supportive in trying to get me up to speed. I showed enough pace to realistically have a chance of a points score but I have got to get off the line better and be 100% committed from the first corner. Donington is one of my favourite circuits so let's see what it brings, with a bit of luck I can be on Rob Collard’s bumper at the end of the race and not the start!”
Airwaves Racing Team Principal David Bartrum said:
“The Airwaves Racing team are really looking forward to a return to Donington and getting to work on the next leg of our 2011 campaign. It’s a fantastic circuit that we enjoy racing at, and in theory the Focus should do well round there. Hopefully, now that the pressure is off after Brands, Liam [Griffin] can kick start his season and pull in some good results and I’m confident that Mat [Jackson] will deliver when it matters most on the day. As ever we’re ready to ‘Kick Up a Gear’ and go racing!”
Round 2 of the BTCC featuring races 3, 4 and 5 take place at Donington Park on Sunday 17th April. Live coverage of Sunday’s events will be shown on ITV4, itv.com and also in HD from 11.00am – 6pm, with itv.com featuring live streaming online of Saturday’s qualifying session between 3.25 and 3.55pm.
