After Jos Menten had secured a position on the fifth starting row, PSI Experience was clearly very confident. Despite a clutch problem in the first qualification session, the young Limburger had a good eye on the race of twice around the clock: "The Corvette has been built for endurance races. Without the clutch problem, we could have moved another row on the grid. However, our starting position doesn't determine the course of the race. The car starts in due form and the Dunlop tires are excellent. I'm very confident about a good result", Menten says before the start.
At the start of the race, Menten proved that a ninth starting position isn't a bad point of departure. The Dutchman made up four positions in as many laps. Menten ran consistant lap times and was able to reduce the gap with the GLPK Corvette: "Immediately, I had the right rhythm and that made me confident. In no time, I was able to close the gap with the cars in front of me. Because the Corvette was in balance, I could outbrake the oppostion without any trouble. I was able to follow the front runners' tempo and to close the gap with the GLPK Corvette", Menten is pleased to conclude after his first stint.
After strong stints by Bornhauser and Bouvy, Belloc drops the tempo a little. After four hours of racing, Jos Menten takes the wheel again. Coming out of the pit road, the PSI Experience driver is in sixth position. Again, Menten is driving a steady stint and he could win a place in the running score. but at 21hrs15 it goes wrong: "Steering into the second part of the Double Left, the car went straight on. I slammed on the brakes to avoid contact with the tires", Menten reports afterwards. "Eventually, I came to a halt against the wall. When I got out to see what was wrong, I saw that the front right tire had burst. We have lost ten laps because of the incident, but it's still a long race..."
The Corvette C6-R falls back to the fourteenth position. The drivers start a race to recover lost ground and around midnight, the American racing car dives into the top ten again. At 02hrs30, Menten starts a double stint. A couple of hourse later, the PSI Experience Corvette C6-R is driving around at sixth position: "It's going well. With a little luck, a top five placing is still possible", says the driver from Haelen, who has to manage without fourth gear from 12hrs00. When the Zakspeed Racing Saleen S7-R has to cope with a problem at 15hrs30, the Corvette C6-R sneaks into the top five again. Half an hour later, the 58th edition of the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa is being flagged down. Vitaphone Racing seizes victory, before Phoenix Racing and GLPK Carsport. When the checkered flag goes, Belloc is the fifth to finish with the PSI Experience Corvette C6-R: "As a team, we have put up a good performance. Despite yesterday night's setback, we can look back on a successful Proximus 24 Hours of Spa. This is very morish!", a happy Jos Menten concludes.
