24 HOURS OF SPA: SPECTACLE FROM RUBERTI UNDER THE RAIN

The 2009 edition of the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps did not bring good luck to Paolo Ruberti, after the historic deed that took him to the top step of the podium.

The Veronese champion has been forced to the retirement during the seventeenth hour due to a problem to the gearbox, when the race was already compromised by the previous technical stops in the pits. Ruberti did not miss the chance to give spectacle: both under the heavy rain and on wet tarmac he was the fastest on the track and managed to recover lap by lap several seconds even on GT1 cars.

Paolo Ruberti:

"I am obviously disappointed for the retirement even if I think I will remember for a while this race and my driving shift on the wet: at the beginning I realized I was driving to the limit but I thought I was not that fast. When I started overtaking some GT1 cars I said to myself: 'Goodness me, we are flying!' and by radio and from the pit wall started to incite me. What a shame for not finishing a race that last year gave us a great satisfaction... never mind, we will make up for this in 2010!"

Next round of the FIA GT championship is scheduled for the 30 August at Budapest.
