For the sixth time in seven years Jos Menten will be on the start grid of the renowned Total 24 Hours of Spa. It all started back in 2003 with a Porsche straight out of the AD Sport stables, after which Menten switched over to the SRT Corvette C5-R, then opting for the newer C6.R- model in the colours of PSI Experience, to finally choosing the Lamborghini Murcielago R- GT of Reiter Engineering in 2007. Last year the Haelen based driver returned to the Corvette-clan, driving for the ultra professional Phoenix Carsport. An excellent result was on the books up until the Corvette - at that moment leading the race - caught fire as the result of a crash by one of Menten's team-mates.
2009 will therefore be the year of truth. For the last time the 'old' GT1 muscle cars will confront each other on the mythical circuit in the Belgian Ardennes, where Eau Rouge, Raidillon and Blanchimont continue to appeal to one's imagination. Various options were on hand for this twice around the clock competition, but it soon became clear that the Belgian PK Carsport offered up a definite opportunity of clinching a top result. The well-oiled Limburg based team, renowned for their greased lightning pitstops managed by Jorge Segers and Toine Hezemans, has an excellent chance of victory with their Corvette C6.R. Together with regular drivers Anthony Kumpen and Mike Hezemans, who for the occasion will be joined by the ever fast Belgian Kurt Mollekens, the 28 year old Jos Menten will need to bring this hard assignment to a successful conclusion.
"The Corvette remains the pre-eminent battle weapon to dethrone the Maserati. In 2007 Phoenix Carsport proved that victory is achievable. This year the race will be even harder. Everyone is hot on performing well in the last edition of these 24 Hours of Spa under the present regulations. All the teams will be prepared down to the finest details, including PK Carsport. Nothing will be left to chance. As per usual the car will be on the start grid in optimal condition and thanks to the fast pit work we can definitely be counted amongst the likely candidates. Anthony and Mike are also amongst the favourites for the championship. It is crucial to achieve a good result in these 24 Hours of Spa in order to gain control of the leadership in the second half of the season. We know what is left for us to do!", a combative Jos Menten looks ahead.
Rendezvous on Saturday 25th July at the foot of the Raidillon, where the start of the Total 24 Hours of Spa will be given at 16.00hrs.
